A new office complex has been realized based on a design by Kraaijvanger + Urbis from Rotterdam. This is situated at the Riekerpolder site, which is a continuation of the South Axis business district of Amsterdam. Two buildings have been comprimised. This H-shaped office was developed by a construction team. As part of this team, the Oskomera Group was responsible for all of the façade work. This concerns not only the engineering, production and fitting of the aluminium and steel façade elements, but also the natural stone cladding. Furthermore, Oskomera supplied fire-resistant indoor frames, steel stairways, glass balustrades, skylights and minor ironwork.

The H-shaped building consists of two high office wings, which are linked to one another by a middle section which is a little lower. The wings are almost identical: circa 45-metres high, approximately 65-metres long and around about 15-metres wide. Both building sections are clad all around with natural stone, incorporated into which will be a fixed sequence of aluminium façade elements. In this long façade of the North-West wing, this pattern is interrupted by a curtain wall construction, which protrudes from the façade by 800 mm. This curtain wall, called an ‘bay window’, has dimensions that equate with the middle building. In the South-East wing there is also a curtain wall construction, but this is considerably narrower; it runs from the ground level to the edge of the roof and is 800 mm back from the external wall. The name ‘recess is therefore appropriate.

The middle building is as open as the wings are closed. On both sides a curtain wall has been assembled, with varying transparent and closed glass panels. To disguise the view of a curtain wall, a grid made from stainless steel cladding was placed in front of the façade. This cladding runs in a vertical direction in front of the column structure and in a horizontal direction every two floors, alongside and in front of the floors. The middle building is circa 35-metres high, 40-metres wide and 25-metres deep. This central section, incorporated into which is the entrance, serves as both a horizontal and vertical traffic area. It has a representative function, with all kinds of open spaces and reception areas.

The visually dominant factor within the middle building is the steel designer stairwells, which also form part of Oskomera’s assignment. These stairs are made up of flat steel plates, between which there are welded treads. As well as there is a few stairways in the central hall to the various floors, there also is similar stairways from the underground car park to the ground floor.

The construction of the office complex was carried out by a construction team. The construction team consisted of four other contractors. The Voorbij Group was responsible for the prefab concrete shell. The technical installation work has been carried out by Bosman Bedrijven. The coordination and the fitting out of the whole project, as well as dealing with the tenants’ preferences, was the responsibility of the building consortium Riekerpolder, in which construction firms Hillen & Roosen and K.J. Dekker participated.
