In order to be able to comply with the current regulations in relation to fire requirements and future European legislation a 30 minute fire resistant version for the CW60-DRL curtain wall system.

On the basis of theoretical knowledge, experience and a number of preliminary tests, an official fire test in accordance with the NEN-EN 1364-3 was finally carried out on 16 April 2010. In contrast to the NEN 6069 this standard requires that a test element is built along the front of the furnace that can demonstrate that fire spreading to higher floor is also prevented.

In view of the fact that modern architecture is requiring façades with maximum transparency more and more a decision was made to build and test a curtain wall element at the maximum production size of fire-resistant glass type SGG Contraflam Lite Climaplus 30, which is 2300 x 3800 mm. This XXXL version achieved not only a EW30 classification, but also the heavier, and also compulsory in the Netherlands in future, EI30 classification that offers extra safety to people, particularly when escape routes are located next to façades.

No other curtain wall system, in aluminium or steel, has yet been able to equal this result!
